MOUTH MAGIC—Joy, skill and spirit of vocal improvisation in celebration of Hollyhock’s 30th year,
as well as CIRCLE SINGING every day—Spontaneous orchestra of voices.
Calling all singers who have come to Hollyhock over the last 16 years to work with Rhiannon as well as new singers drawn to this improvisational gathering. WeBe3 will be joining Rhiannon to create music in a safe and dynamic circle of singers. Meld intuition and invention with skill, heart, and breath, to craft the songs within you. The powerful nature of Cortes Island holds and informs our music.
In addition we will gather in circle using the ancient form of Circle Singing (as practiced in modern times by Bobby McFerrin) to create continuous improvised song in daily 2 hour sessions over these 9 days.
There will also be opportunities to exchange vocal wisdom with other singers in small groups led by Rhiannon and special guest teachers David Worm, vocal percussionist/soloist, & Joey Blake, vocal bassist/soloist of the vocal a cappella improvisation trio WeBe3.
Special evening sessions will include:
Will Hewett: 15-minute daily singing practice; and
Laurel Murphy: improvised looper soundscapes for guided meditation at Callenish Society in Vancouver.
Together this team of teachers bring skills in technique, rhythm, percussion and storytelling as well as their shared love of improvisation.
Each day our Circle Song will have a declared intention to increase the power and focus as we create music for change, for international peace and for the understanding of our need to sing in community until we sweat.
